COVID-19 Liability Coverage Update


Because we continue to receive questions on COVID liability coverage, we wanted to recap some of the important information that we’ve shared with you in recent days, and provide some updates.

The Trust’s reinsurers informed us earlier this year that they would be excluding COVID liability claims from their coverage for the Trust. Without this protection against potentially catastrophic losses, the Trust had no choice but to follow suit and exclude COVID liability claims from coverage for the members effective July 1, 2020.

As we notified you earlier, however, we did not consider this the end of the matter. Instead, we began investigating options for providing COVID coverage to our districts in the absence of reinsurance. We believe that we have found a solution, and will be presenting it to the Trust board for approval on August 4, 2020. We’ll provide you with an update after that meeting.

In the meantime, we’d encourage you to continue reviewing the parental acknowledgement/waiver documents that we have provided to you. These are optional for district use, but if you have questions or concerns about the documents, now is the time to talk them through with us. Use of the acknowledgement form (not the waiver) will likely be a pre-condition to COVID coverage.
