Trust Model Policies 12/17/2021At its December 15, 2021 board meeting, the Trust board voted to engage with the Trust’s panel of law firms to begin crafting model policies for K–12 districts. We anticipate that these policies will be available beginning in the spring of 2022. We will keep you updated on this process as it develops. In the meantime, please see below for answers to some common questions.
Q: Why did the Trust decide to create its own model policies? In recent months, a number of our districts have told us that they are seeking new sources for district policy guidance. At the same time, new providers of model policies are emerging to meet this need. It is critical that district policies be crafted correctly, as they have the potential to create unintended liability if they are not. Given the Trust’s central role in district risk management, we concluded that the best way to help districts was to develop the policies ourselves, relying on our proven, experienced team of attorneys and input from our members.
Q: How should we choose between Trust policies and other organizations’ policies? That’s a decision best made through consultation among key district stakeholders. We anticipate some advantages, however, in using Trust policies:
Q: Will there be an added charge for this service? This will be determined by the Trust board at a later date, and we will communicate further updates to members.
Q: Will the policies by copyrighted? This will be determined by the Trust board at a later date, and we will communicate further updates to members.
Q: Will adoption of the Trust-recommended policies be a condition of coverage? No.
