Title IX Training

2/6/2024

Title IX of the federal Education Amendments of 1972 prohibits sex-based discrimination in education programs and other activities that receive federal financial assistance. In August of 2020, changes were made to Title IX regarding how colleges and K–12 school districts must handle formal complaints under the law.

Districts are required to have three roles in place to support the recent changes:

  • Title IX coordinator,
  • Title IX investigator, and
  • Title IX decision maker.

Each individual serving in a Title IX role is required to receive training in the Title IX process. (At this time, the law allows for the coordinator and the investigator to be the same individual.)

In an effort to assist members with the new Title IX training requirement, the Trust will be hosting the trainings listed below, this includes the Title IX Coordinator Training as well as training for decision-makers and investigators. Prior to attending the Title IX Decision Maker and Investigator trainings, we require that members watch the two-hour “Title IX Overview” recorded webinar on the Trust website. This webinar provides the appropriate background information to prepare for further trainings.

Trainers for all sessions will be Kathleen Brantingham and Meghan Baka, experienced school attorneys with Udall Shumway, and take place at Show Low Unified District Office (380 West Old Linden Road, Show Low AZ 85901).
